Multidisciplinary Sarcoma Care
Sarcomas are cancers of the connective or supportive tissue (such as bone, cartilage, fat, muscle, and blood vessels) and soft tissues. At the Laura and Isaac Perlmutter Cancer Center, our specialists offer each patient personalized, informative care with unique, effective treatment options.
We have years of experience treating the large, diverse population of patients at Tisch Hospital; the Hospital for Joint Diseases, where our Orthopaedic Oncology division is located; and Bellevue Hospital Center. Our doctors have treated virtually every kind of soft-tissue sarcoma and bone sarcoma.
A dedicated multidisciplinary team of professionals-including orthopaedic surgeons, pathologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and physical therapists-meets every week to discuss patients newly diagnosed with sarcoma, considering their lifestyle and needs to formulate a personalized cancer care plan. During these meetings, the Perlmutter Cancer Center team reviews the latest sarcoma research and determines how the findings of such cutting-edge investigations can be effectively applied to each patient's treatment.
Our sarcoma experts evaluate and treat patients in the state-of-the-art Perlmutter Cancer Center, a collaborative, multidisciplinary clinic setting located on East 34th Street at Third Avenue. Patients can undergo diagnostic tests, learn the results of those tests, and receive a personalized treatment plan-all under the same roof. Pediatric patients are seen at Stephen D. Hassenfeld Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, part of Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital.
Perlmutter Cancer Center investigators are currently conducting trials to evaluate new treatments for patients with metastatic sarcoma, including agents that halt the growth of blood vessels that tumors need to grow and spread as well as other innovative anticancer drugs. Through studies like these, we make clinically relevant "bench-to-bedside" discoveries and develop targeted therapies.
Whether you are seeking a second opinion or are ready to start treatment, we encourage you to see one of our specialists to learn about your diagnostic and treatment options and make an informed decision about your care.
