Gynecologic Cancer Screening Programs
The Pap smear is currently the best way to detect cervical cancers early, when they are most likely to be cured. To learn how often this screening test is recommended, visit the American Cancer Society Web site.
NYU Medical Center offers Pap smears and recommends this test to screen for cervical cancer. For more information and to make an appointment, please call the NYU Physician Referral Service at 1-888-7-NYU-MED (1-888-769-8633). You may also visit the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
The Lynne Cohen Cancer Screening & Prevention Project for High Risk Women provides early detection and prevention services to women with an increased risk of gynecologic or breast cancers. Women who have a personal or family history of breast, colon, ovarian, or urinary cancer; genetic mutations that predispose to breast and ovarian cancer; and/or previous use of fertility drugs for more than one year may be at high risk for breast or ovarian cancer.
