Thyroid and Endocrine Cancer Research

The primary goals of the Thyroid and Endocrine Cancer Disease Management Group are to provide individualized, multidisciplinary care for patients, and to advance the clinical and basic science behind Thyroid Cancer, whose incidence has more than tripled over the past three decades.

The Thyroid and Endocrine Cancer group provides individualized, coordinated care, centered on each patient in a multidisciplinary setting, as well as research into the biology of Thyroid Cancer.

This group includes leadership from:

  • Experienced Thyroid Cancer Endocrinologists
  • Thyroid Cytopathologists/Pathologists focused on the diagnosis of Thyroid Cancer, as well as risk stratification of individual thyroid tumors using molecular testing
  • Dedicated Thyroid and Head/Neck Radiologists
  • Endocrine Surgeons with expertise in the surgical treatment of Thyroid and other Endocrine Cancers
  • Nuclear Medicine specialists to provide adjuvant therapy for appropriate patients
  • Genetic Counselors for patients with hereditary Thyroid Cancers
  • Translational scientists with funded research on Thyroid Cancer biology

Thyroid cancers have distinct tumor biology, molecular biology, and etiology. One of the primary goals of the Thyroid Cancer Disease Management Group is to aggressive thyroid cancers, learn more about their tumor biology and provide effective care. Successful treatment requires specialized knowledge from the treating physicians. Many patients with thyroid cancer need treatment from different specialists. The Thyroid and Endocrine Cancer Disease Management Group coordinates those specialists into a team, with treatment centered on each individual patient.

Research in the Thyroid and Endocrine Cancer Disease Management Group is an active clinical and translational program focused primarily on the biology of thyroid cancer. This program features clinicians and scientists dedicated to understanding the mechanisms involved in the initiation and growth of thyroid cancers, and using this knowledge to improve the care of patients with these cancers. Researchers participate in national clinical trials for patients with thyroid cancers. Leaders of the Thyroid Cancer Disease Management Group hold key roles in the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, the American Thyroid Association and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists.
