Smoking Cessation Consultation Service
The Smoking Cessation Program offers intensive counseling and treatment opportunities for patients who are current tobacco users and former users who are at risk of relapse.
Numerous studies have demonstrated that combining counseling and pharmacotherapy is the most effect approach to treating nicotine dependence. Additionally, smoking abstinence increases with increased intensity of counseling that addresses the social and psychological factors that create strong barriers to long-term smoking abstinence. Smoking Cessation Service Features
- The Smoking Cessation Program is open to anyone who smokes
- 45 minute initial visits with 15-30 minute follow-up visits or telephone counseling as needed
- Intensive evidence-based counseling
- Smoking cessation medication management
- Feedback reports to referring clinicians with treatment plan and recommendations

About Dr. Donna Shelley
The Smoking Cessation Program is led by Donna Shelley, MD, MPH, an expert in tobacco use treatment. Dr. Shelley is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Population Health and serves as Director of Research Development and Co-Chair Section on Tobacco, Alcohol and Drug Use, within the Department of Population. For over a decade, Dr. Shelley has conducted research on treating tobacco use and dependence and has provided smoking cessation treatment for a wide range of populations, including those with comorbid conditions.
